Why We Created DAZZL
After decades of teaching, there is one thing I know for certain.
The reason capable students don't reach their potential is not talent.
Anxiety, a lack of belief in themselves, and not knowing how to get back up when something goes wrong. These are what stop students.
And every one of these things can be trained.
DAZZL is the product of three generations of belief.
My parents immigrated to the United States from Korea and worked 15 hours a day, 365 days a year in a low-income neighborhood in Baltimore. They believed that education could build a better life for their children, and they sacrificed everything for that belief.
I am the result of that belief.
I studied cognitive psychology at Yale, then spent decades teaching — in Irvine's gifted education programs, in the college consulting practice I ran, and in the academy I founded. Through all of it, that belief slowly became more than what my parents had in me. It became what I have in my students.
I have met students who lost faith in themselves, stopped working toward goals they once cared about deeply, and found it hard to keep going. But I have also watched those same students learn with confidence again, hold onto their goals, and keep moving forward.
That is why DAZZL exists.
Belief is not something abstract. It is a real force. Belief changes what we are willing to attempt, how persistently we push through difficulty, and ultimately who we become.
DAZZL was built to carry that belief to more students. The belief that effort, when it meets the right system, leads to real results. The belief that every student has the potential to fully realize who they are and dazzle.
